Mike's 32nd Birthday- Tuesday (Dinner and a Movie)

We celebrated Mike's 32nd birthday with dinner and a movie on Tuesday. The movie of choice was "10,000 BC" and for dinner "Panda Express". Phil, Missy and I helped him celebrate. Damian was sitting at the border of Canada, in the middle of a fiasco, not being able to cross into Canada for a job. It took him two days to get the okay for entry, and if I heard the story straight from Missy, it took the help from the city of Edmonton (sp?), where his job was. We'll get more info from Damian when he returns next week! Anyway, for Mike's birthday dinner we had orange chicken, mandarin chicken, fried rice, chow mein noodles, mixed vegetables and egg rolls. And no, that is not a picture of cupcakes from Missy's birthday! Those cupcakes were fresh from the freezer! I bought a package of cupcakes from Costco, and you guessed it, it was in bulk- package of 16. I might even have some to pull out of the freezer for Phil's birthday in August. Damian will probably get new for his! After dinner, we watched the movie and then Mike opened cards and gifts. Mike took off after cake to meet up with his friend Karen and some others for bowling for his birthday.

Phil's Father's Day- Part Three

After dinner and watching some golf, Phil opened up his cards and gifts. The one gift that made a real impression was the nose, ear and mustache grooming kit that Mike gave him. Phil was quite impressed with the results!

Phil's Father's Day- Part Two

This afternoon, we hung out by (that would be me) and in (that would be everyone else) the pool. We had an excessive heat warning today, and boy could you feel it. The pool water was like lukewarm bath water!

Phil's Father's Day- Part One

I forgot to send the camera with Missy this morning, but she stopped by @ 8am this morning to pick Phil up for a Father/Daughter breakfast @ Denny's. After breakfast Missy ran Phil over to Home Depot to pick up a few items and home they came.

Phil started a little project and then sat down to kick back for a bit and I started making food for our little barbecue. I made a wild blueberry crisp and some of "Cookie's" beans. I had made potato salad the night before. I made it a little different this time by adding about 1 cup of crumbled bacon. Yum!

More Birthday Pics

Linda's 53rd Birthday- Dinner and a Movie with the Family (minus one- Damian is still in Baltimore)

A few years ago we started having "Dinner and a Movie" for birthdays in our family. The birthday person decides what kind of dinner they want (homemade or takeout) and they also pick the movie to watch and we all get together to celebrate! I picked salad for my favorite but Missy said that was too boring so I had to pick my next favorite food which is Italian. So Missy picked up the ingredients for fresh cheese tortellini, she made homemade vodka sauce and hot Italian sausages. It was very good!
For the movie I picked, P.S. I Love You (Hillary Swank and Gerard Butler). It was pretty slow for the guys but Missy and I liked it. After the movie, they sang Happy Birthday and I blew out a candle on my cake. It was white cake with butter cream frosting and Mike picked up some Dreyers Slow Churned Vanilla Ice Cream (gotta watch calories somewhere!). I received some very nice gifts and my day came to an end.
I also got sung to 3 times on my way into work and @ work yesterday. Dad and Mom called and sang in harmony, my friend Sharon sang to me at my desk and then my friend Barb sang to me. I also got calls to work from Phil and Missy, and then on the way home I got a call from Damian. Talk about being the center of attention!

The "Bees"- Sounds Like an Alfred Hitchcock Movie!

Or if your too young to know about Alfred then how about Wes Craven! Anyway, Saturday afternoon Phil, Missy and I were out "pimping" (Phil's terminology for out driving around!). We ended up close up by Mike's house so gave him a call to stop by for a quick visit.

He had been working in his backyard and was getting ready to hang out in his spa for awhile. He had mentioned, last weekend, that he was having some more problems with bees hanging around the spa. Two years ago we both had major problems. Anyway, as we sat there Mike grabbed a sponge to wipe away some stuff that was oozing out between the redwood slat siding. It was honey! To have that much honey oozing out we figured that there had to be a huge honeycomb behind there. Phil and Mike took the siding off on the end that was leaking and the pics show exactly what was found!!! Leave it to Phil to do something bizarre! Mind you, Mike has been spraying bee spray up into the cracks for a week now. But when Phil took a big handful of honey out of the housing area he couldn't help but to try it! What am I going to do with him. He said he figured though that the spray didn't penetrate that far into the honeycomb! Let's hope not!
